When Nokia asked if I was interested in checking out their new N97, I readily agreed. I have my issues with the user interface. But.. Let's give it a go and see how I get on. Who here has splurged on the N97 as yet? Will you be picking one up on Vodafone UK or AT&T?

Mon, 09 Mar 2009 10:52:06 -0700 35 operator reps at MoMo Paris http://live.mobileindustryreview.com/35-operator-reps-at-momo-paris http://live.mobileindustryreview.com/35-operator-reps-at-momo-paris

There are *35* people on the mobile operator list of attendees at tonight's MoMo Paris. THIRTY-FIVE! I was so excited I counted them! Goodness me. What a super turnout. I'd love to see something similar at London events. You're lucky if you get a token presence at most events in the UK. Sent from my BlackBerry® wireless device

Mon, 09 Mar 2009 06:59:24 -0700 Orange and Barclaycard introducing mobile payments http://live.mobileindustryreview.com/orange-and-barclaycard-introdu http://live.mobileindustryreview.com/orange-and-barclaycard-introdu

It's just a small entry on page 5 of today's London Telegraph Business section. Indeed it's only 6 paragraphs of text - maybe 150 words. But it's explosive news for the UK mobile payments sector.

For years as both consumers and mobile industry cheerleaders, we've been sat waiting for something like this to happen -- whilst the associated parties, the operators, banks and fulfilment companies, have been sat staring at each other across the room. Like 11 year old girls and boys at their first disco.

Finallt Orange has stepped up. They've announced a deal with Barclays Bank's Barclaycard so - if you're a customer - you'll be able to pay for items at checkout by simply waving your handset at a reader.

Details are sketchy at the moment - I will be learning more information shortly, which I shall bring to you pronto.

Vodafone? T-Mobile? HSBC? First Data? Where are you?

This evening I'm going along to MoMo Paris on a scouting mission. I'm hunting for the best and most innovative Parisien mobile developers.

Toward the end of the month I'm planning on hosting another MIR Developer's networking event (like the successful one we did in London during January). So I'm looking for companies to interview when we bring over the MIR TV crew.

Have you got any suggestions for anyone I should be talking to? If so, hook me up? I'm @ew4n on Twitter or ewan@mobileindustryreview.com. Sent from my BlackBerry® wireless device

Tue, 17 Feb 2009 04:36:21 -0800 Really impressed with MiFi http://live.mobileindustryreview.com/really-impressed-with-mifi http://live.mobileindustryreview.com/really-impressed-with-mifi

The chaps - Ben in particular - are heavily impressed at the possibilities of what Novatel's MiFi devices promise. I really like the idea of being able to walk around with a wifi router in my pocket. We just saw their HSDPA device sending HD video at 14.1 meg throughput as well. Ben's going to have a lot to say on this.

Mon, 16 Feb 2009 06:53:43 -0800 At the Microsoft press conference http://live.mobileindustryreview.com/at-the-microsoft-press-confere http://live.mobileindustryreview.com/at-the-microsoft-press-confere

It's rather interesting to be standing in the middle of a Microsoft press conference on the subject of mobile. Their operating system has, historically, been rubbish. I am delighted that they appear to have got it though. Their new 'My Phone' services (we've got a vid to show you) really do rock.

I've still got a problem with the OS - it still looks a bit... Slow, a bit... Iffy. But what we saw was a very very early release version of 6.5. So here's hoping the experience of the OS is good. The surrounding services are looking very, very smart. Sent from my BlackBerry® wireless device

Mon, 16 Feb 2009 05:53:04 -0800 Microsoft vs Nokia http://live.mobileindustryreview.com/microsoft-vs-nokia http://live.mobileindustryreview.com/microsoft-vs-nokia Here's a fascinating comparison between two giants, Microsoft and Nokia.

Nokia holds their press conference at an unmarked chamber of commerce miles from the Mobile World Congress convention centre. They lay on buses. There is next to no Nokia branding anywhere on the building or inside. Further, the venue isn't in Google Maps at (easily accessible, anyway) and most of the locals had never heard of it.

Microsoft have taken over the Hotel Catalonia, directly opposite the congress centre. Outside the hotel has a flippin' great 'Start - Windows' poster to let you know where you are. Get inside and there are posters every five paces telling you where to go. Simple, easy.

I myself favour the direct approach. Nice one Microsoft. I'm just hoping Microsoft have a decent OS version to demonstrate. Sent from my BlackBerry® wireless device
